The World Cancer Research Fund said drinking at least one cup of coffee a day could decrease the odds of getting the fatal liver cancer.

In a news analysis that the World Cancer Research Fund released this week, researchers also put an exact number on how much drinking alcohol is dangerous to the liver.

Experts said drinking three or more of alcoholic drinks increases the odds of liver cancer while drinking at least a cup of coffee a day could lower the risks.

For those who cannot fight the urge to drink alcohol, researchers said limiting intake to two or fewer alcoholic beverages a day could negate risk of liver cancer for men and one or fewer for women.

This comes as good news for those who drink more than a cup of coffee each day, even as old school has been teaching the public that coffee drinking has negative effects to one’s health.

It was the first report to strongly connect coffee to liver cancer. The report also said that being overweight or obese also increases the chances of developing liver cancer.

The analysis was based on 34 studies that looked at 8.2 million people around the world with 24,500 cases of liver cancer. The studies were conducted by the Imperial College of London.

The findings were then submitted by the college to the World Cancer Research Fund, which released the aggregated findings.

Liver cancer or hepatic cancer is a cancer that originates in the liver.

Liver tumors are discovered on medical imaging equipment (often by accident) or present themselves symptomatically as an abdominal mass, abdominal pain, yellow skin, nausea or liver dysfunction.

Primary liver cancer is the sixth most frequent cancer globally and the second leading cause of cancer death.

In 2012 it occurred in 782,000 people and resulted in 746,000 deaths. Higher rates of liver cancer occur where hepatitis B and C are common, including East-Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
