Bangladesh seeks to copy the success stories of the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and India when it comes to business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, with the goal of generating 200,000 BPO jobs by 2021.

“We have a plan to create employment opportunities for 200,000 youth by 2021 through different programmes in partnership with governments, organisations and other companies, through the summit we want to create awareness and initiate a debate to this effect”, said Ahmadul Hoq, the president of the Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (BACCO).

In an interview with The Independent. Hoq said Bangladesh continues to lag far behind its neighboring countries in the sector.

He said India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines are now leading the global BPO industry with market sizes of USD80bn, USD2bn, and 16bn, respectively.

Bangladesh, he added, shares the same geographical advantage but it is still not capable to emerge as a global outsourcing hub. Only around 25,000 people in the country are now involved in the BPO sector.

BACCO and ICT Division of Bangladesh are arranging the first ever BPO Summit Bangladesh 2015, a two-day summit that will take place on 9-10 December at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

The aim of the summit is to establish global recognition of Bangladesh as a BPO destination.

“We have advantages to capture the worldwide BPO industry and we are going forward in the sector,” he said. – BusinessNewsAsia.com
