Downer EDI Limited (Downer; ASX:DOW) announced today that the Downer-Soletanche Bachy joint venture had been awarded one of the first construction contracts for the City Rail Link project, an underground rail line linking Britomart and the Auckland city centre with the existing western line near Mt Eden.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer looked forward to working closely with Auckland Transport and would use its extensive experience with complex engineering projects to help build a better connected Auckland.

Fenn said the award of the City Rail Link contract was one of the highlights of a recent series of contract wins in New Zealand totalling around $460 million.

The other projects include the Coastal Otago Network Outcomes Contract (NOC), which covers routine maintenance and operation of more than 770 kilometres of the State Highway network until July 2023; an alliance between Downer and the NZ Transport Agency to manage the Milford Road network including maintenance of State Highway 94, the Homer tunnel and avalanche programs, until July 2024; and contracts for the maintenance of the urban and rural road networks for Dunedin City Council
and Hauraki District Council until June 2019.

The joint venture is also involved in the upgrading a six kilometre section of the Waikato Expressway, a project within the Roads of National Significance (RONS) program for the NZ Transport Agency; three projects in Christchurch for the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority and several projects for Christchurch City Council as part of the Dudley Creek Flood Remediation scheme; a number of open space management contracts across the North Island; and a project to construct a new wharf and passenger terminal at Half Moon Bay in Auckland as well as a water maintenance contract for Taupo District Council.

“These contract wins reflect the strength of our business and the breadth of our capability in New Zealand. Over $1 billion in revenue has now been secured in New Zealand for the
    2017 financial year,” Fenn said.
