Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air announced cancellations of flights due to weather disturbance brought about by Typhoon Chedeng (international name Maysak), the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) said today.

On Saturday morning, Cebu Pacific cancelled its Manila-Naga and Naga-Manila flights due to bad weather. While its Manila-Caticlan, Caticlan-Manila flights were also cancelled due to marketing requirement.

The management of Cebu Pacific assured the public of full refund for the cancelled flights. Passengers can also opt for rebooking.

On the other hand, Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced the cancellation of four flights scheduled on Sunday as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said typhoon Chedeng will pummel Luzon from Saturday night to Sunday.

The cancelled PAL flights scheduled on Sunday are the following:

    PR 2014 Manila – Tuguegarao
    PR 2015 Tuguegarao – Manila
    PR 2196 Manila – Laoag
    PR 2197 Laoag – Manila

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said affected passengers can avail of rebooking within 30 days of the original date of flights.

PAL will also waive the rebooking fee if it is made within the validity period of the tickets.

The passengers can also ask for a full refund, without penalties, should they decide to cancel their planned trip to the affected areas, Villaluna added.

As this developed, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Bicol has already implemented a “no sailing policy” on areas under a storm signal, including Camarines provinces and Catanduanes.

PCG-Bicol Spokesperson Lt. Archie Hicban said at least 28 sea passengers have already been stranded in the port of Pasacao, Camarines Sur as vessels were not allowed to sail due to typhoon Chedeng.

Hicban, however, clarified that sea trips in other Bicol areas that have not been placed under a storm signal have been going on. These areas include Masbate, Sorsogon and Albay. – BusinessNewsAsia.com
