CEBU, Philippines – SM Supermalls is expanding its mixed-use developments in Cebu as it seeks to capitalize on rising tourism, business activity and urban growth in one of the Philippines’ fastest-growing regional economies.
The mall operator said its investments span three major properties in Cebu—SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu and SM J Mall—where it is adding office, education, entertainment and lifestyle components alongside traditional retail.
At SM City Cebu, the company said a North Wing expansion has introduced new retail and dining concepts while a planned multi-use office tower is expected to generate jobs and attract additional business investments.
The property also houses a campus of National University Cebu as part of its mixed-use development strategy.
SM is also betting on large-scale entertainment and meetings tourism through the upcoming SM Seaside Cebu Arena and the SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu, projects that are expected to strengthen Cebu’s position as a destination for concerts, conventions and sporting events.
The developments form part of the broader South Coast City township being developed along Cebu City’s South Road Properties.
The company said SM Seaside has also expanded its leisure offerings through attractions such as Cebu Ocean Park, Cebu Fun Park and Thirsty Pickle, while SM J Mall in Mandaue City is positioning itself as a lifestyle destination featuring Japanese-inspired dining and retail concepts.
SM Supermalls President Steven Tan said the company aims to support Cebu’s economic growth through developments that create employment, attract investments and expand tourism opportunities.
“At SM, we believe that our role goes beyond creating destinations. We build spaces where people can connect, opportunities can grow, and communities can thrive. Cebu’s potential is inspiring, and we remain committed to supporting its journey through meaningful experiences, responsible development, and investments that create lasting value,” Tan said.
SM operates 90 malls in the Philippines and eight in China, making it one of Southeast Asia’s largest mall developers and operators.
