MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Typhoon Noul batters the southernmost tiny islands in Japan on Tuesday after leaving destruction and two fatalities in the Philippines, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The agency added that the powerful typhoon was spotted over Yakushima at middday Tuesday. Yakushima is about 1,600 kilometers southeast of Tokyo. MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Foreign net equity capital in the Philippines increased by 184.7 percent in February to US$179 million, sending the total foreign direct investments (FDI) rising by by 17.9 percent in the month, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said. BEIJING – China’s central bank, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has trimmed the benchmark loan and deposit interest rates starting 11 May as the government seeks more ways to revive a slowing economy. MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the central bank of the Philippines, said preliminary data showed that the country’s gross international reserves (GIR) increased to USD80.8 billion as of end-April 2015.
