INDONESIA – At least seven people died while four others were injured when landslides hit houses in Indonesia’s Bali before midnight Thursday, the national disaster management agency said.

The landslides hit Songan village of Bangli district, falling and destroying five houses at about 11 pm Thursday. All of the seven bodies have been recovered.

In an interview with Xinhua news agency, national disaster management agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the landslides were triggered by heavy downpours.

Indonesia is frequently hit by landslide and flood during heavy rains and the disaster agency warned people in the district and the districts of Jembrana, Buleleng, Badung, Tabanan and Gianyar over other possible landslides, floods and whirlwinds as heavy rains are forecast to continue by Saturday.
