Twelve Filipinos, 11 men and a woman, who are languishing in the jails of Qatar will soon be going home to the Philippines after they were given royal pardon by the Qatari government.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippines has confirmed that the 12 Filipino inmates in Qatar were given clemency as part of the country’s celebration of Ramadan.

The DFA did not name the 11 men and one woman who will soon be going home as ordered by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Information provided by the DFA showed that the 12 Filipino prisoners in Qatar were involved in different cases and were convicted by a Qatari court.

The clemency was announced last week and United Arab Emirates Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktourn immediately ordered the release of the 12 Filipinos. – BusinessNewsAsia.com
